Dog-friendly beaches in Pembrokeshire

From May 1st to September 30th, some beaches have partial or full dog bans, meaning dogs are either only allowed on a designated section or not at all. Many beaches with a partial dog ban still offer a large area where dogs are allowed. All of Pembrokeshire's beaches have signs that show maps of dog restrictions

These beaches are truly a dog's dream, offering lots of space to run around in the sand.

Lyfyn Beach is what we would call a hidden gem. Accessible only via the scenic Pembrokeshire coastal path from Abereiddy or The Sloop Inn at Porthgain, its slightly more secluded nature means it's often quieter than other spots.

The walk along is a great dog walk as your dog can mostly roam free and once you get to the beach there is ample space for your dog to explore making it a brilliant dog friendly option in Pembrokeshire.

🚐 Park either at the Sloop Inn or in Abereiddy, SA62 6DT.

2. Druidston

Druidston, a vast expanse of golden sand backed by dramatic cliffs, that remind us of the beaches in Portugal. Druidston is a fantastic choice for dogs who love to run free. However, it’s all in the timing, if the tide is in then you may just be left with the pebbles so bare that in mind if you are planning to spend the day here or head for a dog walk.

🚐 Parking is limited for Druidston, either park in a lay-by on the road above the beach or walk from neighbouring Newgale.

This expansive, golden beach is a haven for dogs who love to run free. With no restrictions in place, your furry friend can enjoy the vast stretch of sand to frolick about. This has got to be one of the best dog friendly beaches in Pembrokeshire as it stretches for approximately 2km.

Beyond the beach itself, you can explore the Marloes Peninsula, taking in the stunning coastal scenery. A walk to Deer Park is highly recommended, offering breathtaking views; however, it's worth noting that dogs may need to be kept on a lead in this area due to the presence of wild ponies. Marloes Sands is perfect for a full day out, offering both beach fun and scenic walks.

🚐 Paid National Trust parking at SA62 3BH, it's then a 15 minute walk to the beach.

Often claimed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK, Barafundle Bay is a true paradise. The best part is dogs are welcome year-round, making it a must-visit. Its neighbour, Broadhaven (South), also offers unrestricted access and is equally stunning.

We personally would opt for Broadhaven (South) as we thinking it's the more dog friendly beach of the two. Since Barafundle Bay is held in high esteem, it can be busier. Broadhaven is also bigger so there is a lot of space for your dog to run around, and a stream feeding the sea if they like a splash about.

You could also walk the coastal path between the beaches and onwards to Stackpole Quay.

🚐 There are several car parks depending on how far you want to walk, you can park at Bosherton Lakes or Stackpole Quay.

Tucked away around St Anne's head offering stunning views, Watwick Bay is a charming and dog-friendly cove, perfect for a relaxing day out with your pup.

Watwick Bay can only be accessed via a walk on the coastal path, meaning that it is much quieter than other beaches. It's not the biggest beach, but if you manage to get it to yourself or with a few people, then your dog will have an amazing beach to run around on.

🚐 Park at St Anne's head and walk around the coastal path to Watwick Bay.

6. Newgale

Despite a partial ban, Newgale remains one of our absolute favourites to walk the dog. The beach is huge, so even with part of it off limits, there's a huge stretch where you can walk your dog. At low tide, you can even explore through the cliffs to the fascinating rock pools at the very far end of the beach, a true adventure for both of you!

Newgale attracts a lot of dog walkers, so if you have a dog that likes to play, we’re sure you’ll find a friend here!

🚐  There are several paid car parks behind the beach on the shorefront.

These iconic Tenby beaches maintain sections where dogs are welcome, so you can still soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the stunning views with your furry friend by your side.

Tenby North Beach has a complete ban from May 1 to September 30, so be sure not to get mixed up. Luckily there are quite a few signs so you should be able to clearly see where you are able to go with your dog.

🚐 Paid parking at South Beach Pay and Display Car Park.

Even with a partial ban for dogs, Poppit Sands is a very dog friendly beach in Pembromeshire. It boasts a massive section by the estuary where dogs are welcome off lead. When the tide is out, the beach seems endless, so you won't need to worry about limited space for your dog to roam.

🚐 Paid parking behind the beach at SA43 3LN, free toilets and a cafe.

This large, sandy beach is also very popular for dog walking. It's a great spot for dogs to run and play. However, Freshwater West is also a popular surfing location, so it can get crowded during the height of summer. If you're looking for a quieter experience, consider visiting outside of peak season.

Pembrokeshire truly offers a wealth of dog-friendly options, ensuring that your beloved companion can enjoy the stunning coastline as much as you do. Remember to always be a responsible dog owner, clean up after your dog, keep them under control, and respect other beach users. Happy adventures!
